RoseAmerica’s most beloved flower gets even more romantic under Joan’s radiant brush

As a popular subject of the western paintings, roses have been interpreted by numerous artists in many media.  Besides symbolizing beauty, roses also represent love and affection, and are the most demanded cut flowers on Valentine’s Day.  I, however, prefer them in a garden than in a vase.   I try to capture their beauty and utterly subtle fragrance.  Applying a very fluid amount of white gouache on the wet rice paper, I try to achieve the fusing effect of the petals.  The leaves are rendered in the traditional calligraphic strokes.   These roses paintings are true hybrids of the East and the West.

True Happiness comes from the Beauty of the Heart
