Workshops at Plaza Artist Materials in Towson & Rockville, 2010 schedule: Sunday, 10/10/2010, 1-4 pm, Peony, Plaza Rockville Store Saturday, 10/23/2010, 1-4 pm, Suminagaski- Japanese Ink Float Marbling, Plaza Towson Store - Meaning “ink floating” in Japanese, suminagashi is an ancient technique of creating art by capturing the patterns of sumi-e ink floating atop a water surface by rice paper. Learn the basic technique of suminagaski and ways to develop the images into finished artwork with sumi-e techniques. Saturday, 11/20/2010, 1-4 pm, Rice Paper Monoprint, Plaza Towson Store - Rice paper monoprint is a unique way to create images by guiding ink, watercolor and water on a flat surface and picking up the image by absorbent rice paper. The technique creates a more controlled pattern than ink marbling using suminagashi, yet the result is still unpredictable and full of surprises. Sunday, 12/5/2010, 1-4 pm, Rice Paper Crinkling, Plaza Towson Store - Used by many modern watercolorists to create the texture of tree branches, foliage and rock surfaces, rice paper crinkling is an ancient sumi-e technique to paint landscape in the East. Learn how to create texture with wrinkled surface of rice paper. You will also learn basic mounting to smooth the paper for final touches.
